Colonic γδ T cells and Trm expressing the CD103 surface marker and Runx3 transcription factor preferentially express CD39. A CD8 T-cell and γδ T-cell populations were identified in IEL fractions (left panels) and CD8 and CD4 T cells were identified in LPL fractions (right panels). Cells were stained for CD69 and CD103 surface Trm markers (upper panels) or CD103 and CD39 (lower panels). B IEL populations were permeabilized for intranuclear detection of Runx3 transcription factor; no Runx3 was seen in LPL (not shown).
