Time trends from January 2020 to November 2021 for (A) monthly incidence of COVID-19 hospital admission, (B) monthly incidence of AECOPD hospital admission, and (C) in-hospital fatality rates for AECOPD. All curves were smoothed (cubic splines). (B,C) values for years 2016 to 2019 were used as references and the 2016–2019 curve averages them. Reference values have been duplicated on both sides of the graph to compare them with those of 2020 to 2021. Shaded areas correspond to the three lockdown periods in France.
