The sequence of angiogenesis in healing wounds. Injury prompts the development of a robust but poorly perfused vascular bed in the wound bed. During resolution, most of the newly formed vessels regress. The apoptotic endothelial cells that are formed as the vascular bed is pruned can be engulfed by both macrophages and fibroblasts, orienting the wound toward a scar-forming outcome.
