IDO catalyzes the formation of kynurenine from tryptophan. IDO is a heme-containing oxidase that uses molecular oxygen to oxidize tryptophan leading to N-formyl-L-kynurenine (NFK), which undergoes hydrolysis to release kynurenine (Kyn).
