Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 entry into angiotensin converting enzyme 2 is facilitated by transmembrane protease serine 2 induced activation of the S protein via its serine protease activity. Inhibition of transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2) may furnish an alternative strategy to treat severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection by blocking viral entry into host cells.
