A) Hammerhead Ribozyme (Rz) (magenta) binds mRNA (blue) by two RNA-binding stems I and III followed by its catalytic cleavage, which leads to inhibition of the target expression. B) Deoxyribozyme (Dz) 10-23 hybridizes to mRNA targets by two RNA binding arms 1 and 2 forming two stretches of RNA-DNA hybrids. The RNA can be cleaved by the Dz itself or by RNase H.
