Risk factors of TB disease and mortality in the elderly. Aging by itself is a major risk factor to develop and succumb to TB, partially due to the waning immunity that characterizes the elderly population. Additional risk factors, including comorbidities and socioeconomic determinants, are key drivers to increase even more the susceptibility of the elderly to respiratory infections.
