Brain, periventricular vasculitis. Cross section through a capillary vessel showing prominent signs of vasculitis. The endothelial cells (5) show swelling and vacuolation and are increased in number with enlargement of nuclei, indicative for activation. Furthermore, presence of mixed inflammatory cell infiltrates within the endothelial layer, consisting of lymphocytes (1), granulocytes (2), and histiocytes (4).
