Mucin-secreting goblet cells (arrowhead) were found to be abundantly distributed in the colon tissue of the control group. In the DSS group, the number of mucin-secreting goblet cells was much smaller, with a limited number of goblet cells (arrowhead) scattered around the colon. L. curvatus BYB3 protected the colon against the DSS-induced damage by increasing the number of mucin-secreting goblet cells in the colon. Scale bar = 50 μm for 10× and 20× magnification.
