Schematic of brain co-processor system for canines and human epilepsy. The system consists of: (1) Implanted lead with multiple recording and stimulation contacts (2). Implanted neural sensing and stimulation device. In the canine, the INSS is implanted adjacent to the scapula, and in humans below the clavicle (3). The embodiment of the system using the Medtronic RC+S™ Summit device requires a telemetry antenna (4). The tablet and smartphone can run the epilepsy patient assistant application that integrates the hardware device and provides bi-directional connectivity to the cloud environment. Automated algorithms for detecting seizures and interictal activity run continuously in the cloud and tablet devices.
