ApoE-modified erythrocyte membranes were cloaked on the surface of near infrared-activatable biomimetic nanogels co-loaded with photosensitizers ICG and TMZ. These biomimetic nanogels accumulate effectively in GBM lesions after the intravenous injection in GBM bearing mice. NIR irradiation triggers the release of TMZ and ICG to accumulate into the deep lesions of the tumor, resulting in effective photodynamic and chemotherapy for GBM tumor cell inhibition.
