Study name Assessing the impact of topical sesame oil application on skin barrier function in neonates: a pilot randomised controlled trial in Pune, India
Methods  
Participants Target sample size: 60
"All neonates born at the delivery unit of the study hospital will be eligible for this study except for the defined exclusions"
Interventions Topical application of sesame oil treated with herb Sida cordifolia within 2 hours after birth
Control: standard care is to not apply anything to the infant skin
Outcomes Primary outcome: reduction in TEWL. Measured twice daily 12‐hourly, until 7 days, or discharge if earlier
Secondary outcome: the trend in change in bacterial colonisation at axillary, periumbilical, and groin sites measured in log CFU/mL after intervention compared to baseline levels will be the secondary outcome at 2 hours after oil application, 24 hours, 48 hours
