Polymers were dissolved in DMF and then water was slowly added to 80% (w/w %). Residual DMF was removed by dialysis. Final polymer concentration: 1.5 mg mL–1 in water.
1.5 mg mL–1 polymer in water with 1.5 equiv of NaOH, resulting in a measured pH 11–11.5. HCl (0.1 M) was then gradually added to reach pH 4.5–5.
1.5 mg mL–1 polymer in water at pH 12.4. After polymer addition, the measured pH was 12.3. HCl (0.1 M) was then gradually added and phase separation occurred at pH < 10.4.
1.5 mg mL–1 polymer in water at pH 12.6. After polymer addition, the measured pH was 12.5. HCl (0.1 M) was then gradually added to reach pH 4.
