Dose-dependent reduction in Caco-2 cell permissiveness to sporozoite infection by specifically bound CSL. Caco-2 cells were incubated with MEM, or increasing amounts (0.25, 0.50, 1.0, or 2.0 μg) of IEF-isolated CSL (○), CPC205 (■), or Tf190 (▵) prior to inoculation with sporozoites. The mean numbers of intracellular stages in cells incubated with CSL were significantly lower than in those incubated with CPC205 (P < 0.002) or Tf190 (P < 0.03) at 0.50 μg, CPC205 (P < 0.004) or Tf190 (P < 0.002) at 1.0 μg, and CPC205 (P < 0.00002) or Tf190 (P < 0.00005) at 2.0 μg.
