Schematic drawing of the XELCI experimental setup. The sample is placed on an x-y-z motorized stage and irradiated with a focused X-ray beam. The luminescence signal is transmitted via liquid light guide to two photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), measuring light intensity at 620 nm and 700 nm respectively. The intensities and ratios are monitored as the stage scans, with real time image shown on the computer screen.
