Functional stimulation mapping shows sites within Heschl’s gyrus are not necessary for speech perception or production. The patient was able to perform a 4-syllable word-repetition task with continuous electrical stimulation along the medial and core Heschl’s gyrus during the perception and production phase of the task. All electrode pairs within the superior temporal plane were stimulated, with positive effects noted by color.
