Development of skin TRM: Naïve CD8+ T cells are activated by dendritic cells in the local draining lymph node. Upon migration to the skin, local environmental factors such as TGF-β induce the transition to a TRM phenotype. Activation of the transcription factors Blimp-1 and Hobit drives the expression of CD69 which in turn causes the down regulation of S1PR1. In addition, TGF-β stimulates the upregulation of CD103 which binds to E-cadherin in the epidermis to retain cells in tissue. Created with Biorender.com.
