Acute exercise in mice. Mice selected for the exercise group (n = 8) were individually housed in cages equipped with a stainless-steal running wheel (diameter = 11.5 cm) between approximately 4:30pm to 7:30am the following morning. (A) Wheel speed in revolutions per minute (rpm) plotted against time. Each color denotes a separate animal, and dark phase refers to the time during which the room lights were turned off. (B) Total running distance in meters was calculated as the sum of the total revolutions from 5pm until removal from the cage multiplied by the wheel circumference. Each colored symbol refers to an individual animal as indicated in panel A. Value equals mean ± 95% CI.
