Reaction scheme to synthesize bottlebrush poloxamers

(a) Anionic polymerization was initiated with potassium tert-butoxide and ran to full conversion at 40 °C in the presence of 18-crown-6 ether. Hydrogenation was achieved over palladium on carbon. Esterification used a 50% molar excess of norbornene-carboxylic acid and was facilitated by DIC and DMAP. (b) Sequential ROMP was performed using Grubbs 3rd generation catalyst.
