Human DPP4-Tg mice are permissive to MERS-CoV infection that results in increased morbidity and mortality. Both hDPP4-Tg mice and transgene-negative littermates (WT) were challenged intranasally with 105 PFU of MERS-CoV or PBS in 60 μl. Infected mice were monitored daily for weight changes, other signs of clinical illness, and mortality. (A) Bodyweight changes of MERSCoV- and sham-infected (60 μl of PBS) mice. Results are expressed as means ± standard deviation (SD; n = 5) at the indicated times postinfection. (B) Survival curves of hDPP4-Tg mice and transgenenegative littermates (WT) after MERS-CoV and sham infection (n = 5). *p < 0.05.
