Criteria
Amsel’s diagnostic characteristics (at least three out of four to be present) Uniform vulval fluid
Vulval pH more than 4.5 (on litmus paper test)
Positive Whiff test
Clue cells seen (more than 20% of cells)
Gram-stained vulval smear (Hay/Ison) – Presence of more Molucus or Gardnerella morphotypes with little or no lactobacilli
