Protection in Hbegf^f/f;Lyz2Cre⁺ mice correlates with impaired macrophage migration and decreased CCL2 expression. Hbegf^f/f;Lyz2Cre⁺ mice have decreased numbers of Ly6C⁺ monocytes in the lungs compared with wild-type mice 7 days post-bleomycin treatment (A), but no difference in total Ly6C⁺monocytes in the blood at the same time point (B). Hbegf^f/f;Lyz2Cre⁺ mice have lower levels of CCL2 in their BALF (C) 3 days post-bleomycin compared with Lyz2Cre⁺ controls. **P < 0.01 and ****P < 0.0001.
