Effect of in vivo administration of anti-IL-4 MAb or anti-IL-10 MAb on the growth of bacterial cells in the organs of mice which were infected with 10⁷ CFU of S. aureus. Mice were injected with normal rat globulin (open bars), anti-IL-4 MAb (hatched bars), or anti-IL-10 MAb (filled bars) 1 h before infection. The numbers of bacterial cells in the spleens (A) and kidneys (B) were determined on days 2 and 7 of infection. Each result represents the mean and standard deviation for a group of five mice. A single asterisk indicates a significant difference from the control group at P < 0.01. The results were reproduced in three repeated experiments.
