GTase was from the concentrates of test strain culture supernatants, except for the cell-associated GTase from S. mutans. The cell-associated GTase was extracted from the cells of S. mutans with 8 M urea.

The GTase fraction (1 mU) was reacted with the antibody to GTase-R (32 μg of protein) at 37°C for 30 min or left unreacted. The reaction mixture was then incubated with [glucose-14C]sucrose at 37°C for 1 h, and the amount of synthesized [14C]glucan was measured. Data are expressed as means ± standard deviations of triplicate experiments.
