Measuring changes in pigment in organotypic skin cultures. Loss of keratinocytes desmoglein 1 results in an increase in pigment production and release from melanocytes through paracrine signaling. Fontana‐Masson stain can be used to visualize pigment present in sections from organotypic cultures to demonstrate changes in pigment levels in different conditions.
