In hepatocytes, PPARα agonism promotes lipid transport and oxidation for lipid clearance; moreover, PPARα activation leads to ROS reduction. PPARα agonists inhibit proinflammatory cytokine production of immune cells in the liver, which protects against dysfunction of hepatocytes.
