Effect of the caspase-3 inhibitor Ac-DEVD-CHO on apoptosis of monocytes triggered by phagocytosis of S. aureus. Monocytes were preincubated in the presence or the absence of 300 μM Ac-DEVD-CHO for 2 h, and then bacteria were added. Cells were further cultured for 18 h, and monocyte death was measured by PI staining.
