Diagrammatic representation of the “foreign body equilibrium” disturbance theory of peri‐implant bone loss. In this concept, the osseointegrated implant is considered “encapsulated in bone,” thus representing a chronic inflammatory state characterized by the presence of “foreign body giant cells” (FBGCs).
