GUV manipulation via acoustic radiation. (A) Schematic representation of an acoustically deformed GUV. A pair of piezo transducers operated at identical frequency are used to create standing waves generating pressure fields of nodes and anti-nodes in the GUV-containing solution. (B) Acoustic radiation used to mechanically deform GUVs. Membrane elasticity and other physical properties are obtained using acoustic radiation-induced GUV deformation. (C) Precise control of pressure field in GUV-containing solution allow the formation of aligned GUV colony formation. Chemical interaction between GUVs and GUV-cells are studied using acoustic manipulation/alignment of GUVs and cells. Panels B and C are adapted from [106] and [107], respectively.
