Representative confocal images showing that EVFEtOH and rutaecarpine prevent pseudovirus entry into cultured HEK293T cells. The pseudovirus expressed ZsGreen which generated green fluorescence (color green in the figure) inside cells, and fluorescent phalloidin (color red in the figure) was used to stain the F-actin component of the cell membrane. Prior to exposure to the pseudovirus, cells were either untreated (control) or were treated with a SARS-CoV-2 neutralising antibody (1 µg/mL; positive control), or with EVFEtOH (0.1 mg/mL) or rutaecarpine (100 µM). The fluorescence intensity was significantly decreased following treatment with EVFEtOH or rutaecarpine compared with the untreated controls.
