The rates of pyrogallol auto-oxidation were used as an indication of the ROS superoxide ion (O2−) scavenging activity of the SDBC and therefore of its Cu-only SOD subunit. The data show that in presence of the SDBC, the auto-oxidation at 1 min decreased by ∼85% compared to controls. This antioxidant activity was monitored for 5 min showing a similar effect.
SDBC antioxidant effect expressed as rate (%) of pyrogallol protection with respect to the control (−SDBC); each value is the mean of three independent measurements.
Difference of absorbance between measurements performed at a distance of 1 minute.
