a–d, In vivo abundance of dCTP (a), dCMP (b), dUTP (c) and dUMP (d) of an E. coli host carrying vector control, the avcID system from V. parahaemolyticus with its native promoter (pAvcIDVP), or an inactive avcD mutant (pAvcIDVP-avcDS49K+E376A) before and after treatment with rifampicin or infected with phage (T3, MOI 5; SECΦ18, MOI 10). Nucleotides were measured using UPLC–MS/MS, normalized to total protein. Data represent the mean ± s.e.m. of two biological replicate cultures.
