Proton NMR spectra of PL-20 (bottom) and HPPH (top), both in CDCl3 solvent. Photosensitizer (PS) resonances of PL-20 are quite similar to those observed for unconjugated HPPH. However, several of these PS peaks were obscured due to interference from large (mainly Pluronic) proton signals. Amide proton peaks at 6.03 and 5.28 ppm are consistent with conjugate formation. Furthermore, the observed ratios of Pluronic to PS peak areas are approximately as expected for PL-20 (two molecules of HPPH are covalently conjugated with amino-Pluronic F-127).
