^aThree or four B6 mice were injected i.v. with the indicated number of LLO-specific CD8⁺ T cells from TNFRI^−/− mice followed by 1.8 × 10⁵ CFU of virulent L. monocytogenes 10403s. CFU analyses on spleen and liver homogenates from all mice were performed 3 days postchallenge. In the majority of cases, no colonies were detected in mice that had received TNFRI^−/− CD8⁺ T cells (the limit of detection was 4.4 log₁₀ CFU/spleen and 5.2 log₁₀ CFU/g of liver). One of four control animals (not shown) died before the CFU analysis.
