Expressed apically in the epithelium of the proximal convoluted tubule, sodium–glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) reabsorbs about 90% of glucose from the urinary filtrate. The remaining 10% is reabsorbed by SGLT1, a high-affinity and low-capacity transporter expressed apically in the epithelium of the straight descending proximal tubule.
