Model for T2D exosome delivery of miRNAs that reprogram transcription of tumor cell genes important for cancer aggressiveness. Circulating exosomes in plasma arrive at the tumor cell surface where they are internalized and release their cargo of miRNAs. These miRNAs are trafficked to the nucleus where they reprogram signal transduction pathways. In this case, miR-93-5p and miR374a-5p are shown signaling through BRD4, which is an essential transcriptional co-regulator of genes important for tumor cell aggressiveness, SNAI1, CDH1 and CD274.
