The classification of COVID-19 severity (adapted from the WHO4)

Non-Severe Severe Critical
Patients without characteristics of severe and critical disease. Patients characterized by signs of Pneumonia (fever, cough, dyspnea) with one of the following:
• Respiratory rate >30.
• Severe respiratory distress.
• SpO2 < 90% on room air (RA.)
Patients characterized by one of the following:
• ARDS.
• Sepsis.
• Septic shock.
• Organ failure (ex, cardiac injury or acute kidney injury).
• Need for mechanical ventilation (invasive or non-invasive) or vasopressor therapy.

ARDS- stands for acute respiratory distress syndrome. SpO2- Peripheral oxygen saturation, an estimation of the oxygen saturation level.
