Schematic illustration of the components in a liquid biopsy. Liquid biopsy obtained from peripheral blood contains different tumor-associated materials such as circulating tumor cells (CTCs), circulating tumor DNA (cfDNA), extracellular vesicles (EVs), free histones, and histone complexes.
