Reagents and conditions: (a) benzyl bromide, K2CO3, MeCN, 60 °C, 3 h; (b) hydrazine monohydrate, EtOH, reflux, 48 h; (c) CDI, 1,4-dioxane, 100 °C, 15 h; (d) Fe, AcOH, 22 °C, 1 h; (e) KSCN, Br2, AcOH, 0–22 °C, 15 h; and (f) 3,4-dichloro-5-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carbonyl chloride, pyridine, CH2Cl2, 22 °C, 15 h.
