AD: HRs based on cubic splines for the association between quintile of total vegetable intake (g/day) with (B and D) and without (A and C) potatoes, excluding BMI (model 1b) (A and B) and including BMI (model 2) (C and D) as a covariate with incident diabetes among participants in the DCH study (N = 54,793). HRs are based on a Cox proportional hazards model adjusted for sex, age, physical activity, smoking status, alcohol status, education level, and hormone replacement therapy and compare the amount of vegetable intake with the median intake in Q1. The χ2 test was used to obtain P values for nonlinearity comparing the nested models.
