Contrast-enhanced gradient echo T1-weighted MR angiography of the cervical arteries. Conversely to CT angiography, MIP-images in MR angiography provide direct visualization of the whole trajectory of the carotid- and cervical arteries without bone- or other soft tissue superposition (a). This allows excellent visualization of segments which are near bones at the base of the neck, such as the origin of the vertebral arteries (b). MIP, maximum intensity projection
