Figure 1: Galectin-8 KO mice are resistant to PA keratitis:
Central corneas of Gal-8−/− and WT (C57BL/6) mice were challenged with PA and the severity of bacterial keratitis was graded on day 1 post-infection (p.i.) using scoring system ranging from 0 to 4 to grade the degree of keratitis as described in Methods, and then corneas were harvested for bacterial and PMN enumeration. (Ai) Representative eye images comparing the disease severity of WT and Gal-8−/− corneas; (Aii) Corneal opacity score of Gal-8−/− and WT mice on day 1 p.i.; (B) Bacterial load and (C) PMN counts in Gal-8−/− and WT mice at day1 p.i. Data are plotted as Mean±SEM. Panels Aii and B: Combined results of 3 independent experiments are shown, N=18; Panel C: Combined results of two independent experiments are shown. N=20. Statistical levels of significance were analyzed by the Student’s t-test. ***P<0.001 vs WT.
