The photomicrographs visualize the expression (dark blue/purple) of fatty acid synthases (FAS), fatty acid elongases (ELO), fatty acid desaturases (Desat), fatty acid reductases (FAR), and additional candidate gene transcripts (others) in fat body cells. Three fat body cell types are indicated: hexagonal cells (h), oenocytes (o), and trophocytes (t). Two separate photomicrographs visualize the expression of GB52820. DAPI (in light blue) was used to counterstain nuclei. Staining in the photomicrograph for GB44756 (marked with an asterisk) did not significantly differ from that of the corresponding control (Supplementary Fig. 4). Scale bar: 50 μm.
