Viability assay and ROS evaluation. Caco-2 cells were treated with a digested cinnamon extract at 23 and 46 µg/mL polyphenols for 24 h, with 1 mM H2O2 for 1 h and with 1 mM H2O2 for 1 h after digested cinnamon extract pretreatment. In panel (A), the cell viability evaluated by MTT assay is reported; panel (B) shows the level of fluorescence after cells incubation with 5 μM H2DCFDA. Data are expressed as a percentage against the untreated cell line used as a control and are shown as mean ± SEM from three independent experiments. Statistical significance: ** p < 0.01, *** p < 0.001 respect to untreated cell line; § p < 0.05, §§§ p < 0.001 respect to H2O2-treated cell line.
