The 11,925 newborns included in the original RCT (1988–90) were randomly assigned to one of three neonatal screening groups: universal ultrasound (n = 3613); selective ultrasound (n = 4388); no ultrasound (n = 3924). The 2340 individuals included for analyses at follow-up (2007–09) originated equally from the three original screening groups (n = 776, n = 745, n = 819, respectively)
