Schematic representation of the impact of 14‐3‐3 nitration and phospho‐client binding. 14‐3‐3 (green) binds to 14‐3‐3 clients (pink—unphosphorylated, orange with red squares—phosphorylated) upon phosphorylation by protein kinases. Nitration of tyrosine (yellow dots) at the secondary interaction site may cause altered 14‐3‐3/client complexes while nitration of tyrosine at the primary interaction site promotes client release and increases client susceptibility to protein phosphatases.
