Values obtained from 4 independent experiments conducted in triplicate and expressed as mean ± SD on both cell populations are shown. Hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase 1 (HPRT) was used as an internal PCR control. Assays were conducted before each experiment to ensure that subsequent infection could occur, thus excluding cell culture-related confounders.
