Hyperglycemia interferes with the activation of the polyol pathway, hexosamine pathway, AGEs production, and PKC, leading to abnormal glucose metabolism. Abnormal glucose metabolism accelerates renal structural modification and dysfunction, as well as kidney damage to MCs, GECs, adipocytes, and TECs.
