A) In the elevated plus, withdrawn and no hormone mice spend significantly more time in the closed arms of the apparatus than the open arms, indicating a higher-anxiety behavioral phenotype. In contrast, sustained mice spent roughly equivalent amounts of time in the closed and open arms. There was no effect of hormone condition on B) velocity or C) distance traveled in the elevated plus. D) In the open field, the time spent in the periphery vs. center of the apparatus did not vary across hormone conditions. There was no effect of hormone condition on E) velocity or F) distance traveled in the open field. Likewise, there was no significant difference between withdrawn and sustained mice in G) the difference in marble burying from baseline or H) total number of marbles buried on the test day. *** p < .0001, ** p < .001.
