Summary of findings. Schematic depicts perivascular neurotransmitter signaling in mouse mesenteric arteries. NO signaling mediates endothelium-dependent hyperpolarization (EDH) of SMCs to SP but not CGRP. KCa channels mediate hyperpolarization to SP in both SMCs and ECs. KCa channels are required for EC hyperpolarization to CGRP, while KATP channels mediate most SMC hyperpolarization to CGRP.
